Lash lift aftercare essentials: a spoolie brush, lash serum, oil-free makeup remover, cotton rounds, and an hourglass

One of the best things about a lash lift is how long it lasts. With almost no daily effort, you get lifted, curled lashes for weeks. Here's what to expect, and how to get the most out of every appointment.

How long does a lash lift last?

Most lash lifts last six to eight weeks. The lift doesn't suddenly "wear off." Instead, it fades gradually as your natural lashes shed and new, uncurled lashes grow in to replace them. Everyone's lash growth cycle is a little different, so some people see results last a bit longer and others a bit shorter.

What affects how long it lasts

  • Your natural lash cycle. Faster growth means lifted lashes are replaced sooner.
  • The first 24 to 48 hours. This is when the new shape sets. Getting lashes wet or pressing them flat too early can soften the curl.
  • Oil-based products. Heavy oils around the eyes can relax the lift over time.
  • Rubbing your eyes or sleeping face-down against the pillow.

Lash lift aftercare: the first 24 to 48 hours

  • Keep lashes dry: no water, steam, saunas, or swimming
  • Skip mascara and eye makeup
  • Avoid heavy workouts that make you sweat
  • Try not to sleep face-down or rub your eyes

Everyday aftercare

  • Brush your lashes gently with a clean spoolie each morning to keep them sitting nicely
  • Use an oil-free makeup remover around your eyes
  • Skip the eyelash curler. You don't need it, and it can crimp the lift
  • Consider a lash serum or conditioning treatment to keep lashes healthy between lifts

Mascara is fine after the first 48 hours. Many clients find they barely need it, especially with a tint.

Does a tint make a difference?

A tint darkens your lashes from root to tip, so they look fuller and more defined without mascara. It's especially worth it if your lashes are light or have fair tips. Tints usually fade a little sooner than the lift itself, typically within a few weeks.

When should you rebook?

Plan on a new lift about every six to eight weeks, once you notice new straight lashes mixing in with the curled ones. Lifting more often than that isn't recommended, because your lashes need time between treatments.

Is a lash lift safe for your lashes?

When it's done by a licensed, trained esthetician with a proper consultation and spacing between appointments, a lash lift is a gentle, low-risk service for most people. Always mention sensitive eyes, allergies, or recent eye surgery before your appointment. If you're pregnant, check with your doctor first.
